Curriculum - At Chesterton Middle School, students will engage in the following required areas of study:

  • English/Language Arts
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • World Geography (7th Grade), U.S. History (8th Grade)
  • Health & Physical Education

Electives - CMS students will also engage in electives, including:

  • Art, SL
  • Advanced Art*, YL
  • Computers I & II, SL each
  • CTE Tech Team*, SL or YL
  • STEM 1, SL
  • Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS), SL (7th Grade only)
  • General Music, SL
  • Performance Music†, YL
    • Choices include: Band, Choir, Bell Choir (7th Grade only), and Orchestra 
  • 8th Grade Intro to Speech, SL
  • 8th Grade World Languages‡, YL
*Requires separate application.
Students must audition for and be accepted into these courses.

High Ability - CMS offers high ability courses in English/Language Arts, Mathematics, and Science for students who meet the criteria for identification and placement. Please see the High Ability website for more information.

Extracurricular Opportunities - There are several extracurricular opportunities for CMS students, including: holding an office in CMS's Student Council, competing on one of our athletic teams (Fall, Winter, and Spring sports), exercising with the CMS Fitness club, selling snacks and refreshments with the Concessions club, expressing your creative talents via the Art club, learning about the culture and language of Japan in Japanese club, enjoying a good book to read with the Readers' club, maintaining aquariums and aquatic habitats around the school with the Fish club, being a part of the Trojan Times newspaper's writing, editing, and production staff, taking part in scientific competitions with the Science Olympiad team, helping resolve conflicts as a peer-mediator on the S.H.O. (Students Helping Others) Team, building drones with the Robotics club, or joining our new Scrabble club.
