Google Sites automatically adds each page of your site to the navigation box in the sidebar of your page. The pages are listed in alphabetical order, except for Home which will always be on top. In most cases this is fine and it's recommended that you leave the links as they are. However, there are times when you may want the pages to your site listed in a particular order. For example, because this site is a tutorial, I want the pages to be listed in the order in which you will probably be performing a particular task.
As you can see in the image to the right, even though I created "Setting Up Your Site" FIRST, as I added new pages Google Sites rearranged the links into alphabetical order, which caused Setting Up Your site to be listed UNDER Photos and Clipart. (Page names indented and under Photos and Clipart and Setting Up Your SIte are subpages and put in their own alphabetical order.) Since you will need to set up your site before you start adding images to it, I rearranged the order of the links.

Changing the Order of the Links in the Navigation Gadget

  1. Click on the Edit Sidebar link

  2. In the Customize your site layout window, click edit on the sidebar navigation gadget (Figure 1)
  3. Uncheck the Automatically organize my navigation box. (Figure 2)

  4. To change the order of the pages in the navigation gadget, select a page and use the up, down, left and right arrows to move its location in the menu. Continue to select pages and use arrows until pages are ordered correctly.(Figure 2)

  5. If a page from your site is missing from the navigation gadget, click Add page. Locate the page in the pop-up window and click OK.

  6. To add a page from another site or an email address to your navigation gadget, click Add URL. In the pop-up window, enter the URL of the page and the name you'd like to give to the link, then click "OK."

  7. To delete a page from your navigation gadget, select the page in the Select pages to show box, then click on the remove icon remove icon.

<<<<< This is what my navigation looks like after making changes (compare to figure above). You can also add links to your site map and/or a listing of recent site activity by checking the appropriate boxes.
After all changes have been made, click OK.  The Configure Navigation window will close and you'll be returned to the Customize your site layout window. Be sure to click the Save Changes button before leaving that page. To return to your site, click on the Return to Site link on the upper left of the screen.
